Carly Waito paintings – Amethyst

Lately I’ve been immersed in other worlds. I’m reading a lot of books and due to what’s turning out to be a true Netflix-addiction I’m also seeing a lot of series and movies. I’ve been busy organizing my Pinterest boards and added some new ones. Do have a look and follow me there! I’m having a month off from the Trendacademy and I’m making the most of it by trying to get as much inspiration as possible. I’m reading stuff about sacred geometry and crystals and since synchronicity is a thing in my life these days I came across these beautiful painted crystals by Carly Waito. I chose to feature the amethyst stone since it’s one of my personal favorites. A stone that comes in different hues of purple and pink. Amethyst is considered a stone of spiritual protection and purification. It facilitates the higher mind and it allows one to take action based on higher guidance and spiritual understanding. There are a lot more properties attributed to them, for more information I recommend reading The Book of Stones by Robert Simmons & Naisha Ahsian; a comprehensive encyclopedia of stones, minerals and crystals. I wish you all a peaceful and balanced december! […]

Fair shops to see: DEERN & more

I’m very happy to see that fair shops and websites continue to grow. Recently I got a press release from a new website where you can find ‘fair’ sustainable clothing and accessorizes. It’s an initiative of Annemarie de Raadt and it’s called de Goede Gids. It features every sustainable shop, brand and web store in Holland where they sell sustainable fair fashion (over 500 addresses are included). And in Ter Aar a new sustainable living store opened its doors. It’s called Cin in Wonen (the owner’s name is Cindy Buijsse): a space of 450 square meters where you can find vintage, antique, brocante and trendy furniture & accessories. Another great tip online is a webstore called Deern. It sells beautiful unique items for children, accessories and small items for your home. It designs and produces all its items in Holland in small quantities. If you are looking for a unique gift for the holidays make sure to pay them a visit. Emma Hagedorn, owner of Deern, was so kind to send me a knot bracelet to review, one of their unique selfmade designs, I love it! It reminds me of my father who actually taught me this knot on our […]

Fotoshoot with Holly Marder & Anouschka Rokebrand

A little while back the lovely Holly Marder from Avenue Lifestyle blog requested models on Facebook for an upcoming fotoshoot. Normally I’m kind off camera shy but since stepping out of my comfort zone is something I’m attempting to do more I emailed Holly for the specifics. I didn’t really have an idea what to expect but I found myself with a lot of other beautiful ladies making flower garlands in a beautiful styled space. It turned out to be a really fun day. Ajda Mehmet made a lot of delicious food which we got to eat at the end (!), Anouschka Rokebrand made beautiful photo’s and Holly Marder’s detailed styling and creative direction really was inspiring. It was a lot of fun to see how something like that comes together and all this hard work was rewarded with a feature on the ultimate wedding blog: Style Me Pretty. I’m very proud to have been a part of it! Thanks again Holly!

Flavourites Live 2014 – it’s almost here!

One of my favorite events during the year is Flavourites Live. I’ve been going there from the very beginning and I’ve seen the event grow and grow. I also still love the website (and store now too!), it’s one of my basic go-to websites whenever I want to relax and browse some webshops. This year I’m going there with Nina from Paper Stories with whom I’m also maybe (fingers crossed) going to Maison & Objet this year (wow!!!) At Flavourites Live you can shop (till you drop) live at 130 web stores (!), there’s a Flavourites Live restaurant and Simply Slow (love that concept) is hosting get-together sessions. There is also a paper atelier where Monique from vlinspiratie will teach you all about wrapping your presents in new and creative ways (O, Nina is joining her on Saturday for that! How cool is that!). Mark 21 -23 november in your calendar! I’m going on Friday, come and say hi!

DDW14 Dutch Design Week II

I made so many photo’s during DDW I had to write another post on it (and maybe I will write another one, who knows?) Everything was so beautifully styled and perfect. It was just a photographer’s dream. You could just take photo’s all day long. One of the most beautiful things I saw were the silk fabrics by Hilde Koenders. I loved their delicacy and the geometric, abstract shapes made out of tulip petals that were reminscent of faces. Tulipbulbs were imported from Turkey during the golden age at excessively high prices. This work pays tribute to this historical fact by a series of abstract different compositions made with dried tulip leaves.  As a matter of fact I noticed a lot of delicate, airy, soft objects at DDW. The laser cut-out garments in black and white by Martijn van Strien, the Airplanting work by Carolijn Slottje for bringing nature inside for indoor people and the very special Carpet Versatile Volumes made by Tijmen Smeulders.

DDW14 Dutch Design Week I

So I went to the Dutch Design Week last Thursday and Friday. I really had the most inspiring two days (with a dramatic ending but more on that later). I loved being there on my own (a luxury as a mother) and I saw a lot. On Thursday I covered the central area starting with the VanAbbemuseum, Cityhall and the design route in the centre and on Friday I went to the Strijp Area and Piet Hein Eek. I especially loved this area and PHE also was great! Highlights for me were the Graduation Show of the Dutch Design Academy, Klokgebouw and the Schellensfactory. A lot of other bloggers wrote about the DDW so you can’t have missed it! Lonneke Huijbregts from Bubblemint organized a bloggerscafe for the first time during the DDW where bloggers gathered for a meet and greet. I met the lovely ladies behind Coosje and ViaMartine in person, I love it when online and offline sometimes meet! The turnout this year was even greater than last year, people know to find this event more and more. Make sure to come next year! I will! {1. Inventory – Atelier NL Sandbank Ongoing / 2. LoveStories Intimate

Being a woman is all about feeling comfortable in your skin. I struggled with insecurities as any woman I imagine up till my late twenties. But the last couple of years I feel more confident than ever. Beauty is about confidence and a certain nonchalance. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I don’t fit the standard beauty ideal and I don’t attempt to fit that mould any more. One thing I love is lingerie because it celebrates being a woman more than anything. LoveStories is a concept of Marloes Hoedeman, fashion and interior stylist. I love the delicate pieces and they are really affordable too. LoveStories has a shop in the Nine Streets area of Amsterdam but also sells online. Make sure to visit the shop when you’re in the neighborhood. You will love being a woman and being able to buy all this! (and your husband will probably thank you too). {Images via Ganbaroo PR}

Some things I love #8

It has been a while since my last STIL so high time to change that! We are enjoying some nice weather over here which is really great since I want to desperately forget fall is on its way… Still I do have some nice things coming up this fall and in January my boy is turning 4! He’s already dying to go to school so I intend to make the most of this couple of months I have left with him. In 2015 we are turning a new leaf, it’s a new phase. It has flown by so fast! {1. Eva Schreuder jewellery

Today is my five year wedding anniversary. How time flies! It struck me that most of my jewellery was a gift from my husband. He knows I really love jewellery and whenever there is a special occasion, like the birth of my son or my birthday he gives me something for my ‘collection’. This way every big emotional moment connects with a piece and tells its story which I really like. At ShowUp I met the lovely Eva Schreuder, she makes beautiful fine jewellery pieces that can fill any sort of silence in your own life poem. In her own words: “A poem consists of words and the silence in between”  (A free interpretation of a Dutch poem by Martinus Nijhoff ) This poem, written on a wall near my home, touches the core of my inspiration to make jewellery. I intent to make ‘half-way-there-products’. It is lost without the wearer. In my jewellery I want to capture the silence in between the words, but at the same time invite the wearer to do so. My jewelry should be a marriage between art and a utensil. The icing on the cake is the added sentimental value. Besides her own label Eva […]

ShowUp (again)

I felt really inspired after visiting ShowUp this weekend. After I saw all these creative people living their dream by ‘creating’ I thought more about my creative dreams and about finding a way to do something with them. The problem with me is that I like so many different things. I like photography and fashion, design and illustration to name just a few. And then there is this whole ‘spiritual’ side of me (which I rarely share here). How can I ever choose one thing? Sometimes I feel I’m doomed not being really good in anything (creative I mean). “The difference between them and you is that they just do it.” Nina said to me and she is right of course although she’s putting a little bit too much trust in my talent… Having the guts and just going for it! Not being over analytical and critical! Not being an absolute perfectionist! The art of letting go… and just doing it! {1. Flower by Vlinder&Vogel / 2.
