Eva Schreuder jewellery

Today is my five year wedding anniversary. How time flies! It struck me that most of my jewellery was a gift from my husband. He knows I really love jewellery and whenever there is a special occasion, like the birth of my son or my birthday he gives me something for my ‘collection’. This way every big emotional moment connects with a piece and tells its story which I really like. At ShowUp I met the lovely Eva Schreuder, she makes beautiful fine jewellery pieces that can fill any sort of silence in your own life poem. In her own words: “A poem consists of words and the silence in between”  (A free interpretation of a Dutch poem by Martinus Nijhoff ) This poem, written on a wall near my home, touches the core of my inspiration to make jewellery. I intent to make ‘half-way-there-products’. It is lost without the wearer. In my jewellery I want to capture the silence in between the words, but at the same time invite the wearer to do so. My jewelry should be a marriage between art and a utensil. The icing on the cake is the added sentimental value. Besides her own label Eva […]

ShowUp (again)

I felt really inspired after visiting ShowUp this weekend. After I saw all these creative people living their dream by ‘creating’ I thought more about my creative dreams and about finding a way to do something with them. The problem with me is that I like so many different things. I like photography and fashion, design and illustration to name just a few. And then there is this whole ‘spiritual’ side of me (which I rarely share here). How can I ever choose one thing? Sometimes I feel I’m doomed not being really good in anything (creative I mean). “The difference between them and you is that they just do it.” Nina said to me and she is right of course although she’s putting a little bit too much trust in my talent… Having the guts and just going for it! Not being over analytical and critical! Not being an absolute perfectionist! The art of letting go… and just doing it! {1. Flower by Vlinder&Vogel / 2. ShowUp 2014

I had the best weekend! On Saturday I was one of the models for one of Holly’s gorgeous bridalshoots *blush* with the amazing photographer Anouschka Rokebrand (more on that soon) and today I went to the ShowUp trade fair with Nina from Paper Stories. We saw a lot of beautiful stuff and on top of that it was just really nice to be inspired together with a friend. I will pick some brands to blog about in the coming weeks, but here are just some inspirational photo’s I made. I made them with my iPhone.. my little boy dropped (yes, I did say dropped) my Nikon camera this morning and now it’s kind off not zooming anymore.. In fact it’s not doing much anymore.. Any tips for a good camera are more than welcome! As far as highlights go: THE VENUE! The trade fair has grown so much! {1. Ferm Living via Kolk & Kolk Agenturen // 2. Fashion Friday: Cotélac

High time to share something for Fashion Friday! When I was in France I discovered this beautiful shop with a brand called Cotélac. The fabrics were amazing, very high quality and the patterns were also stunning. It seemed like a typically French brand but with influences from Africa for instance. Sometimes they collaborate with a specific illustrator/artist like Marion Fayolle. And the best thing is they have an e-shop! These photos are from the lookbook summer//14. I just couldn’t bring myself to post photo’s from the new fall/winter collection since I want to desperately deny winter is coming…

~ SuTurno ~

I’m a sucker for accessoires. Hats, bags, jewelry, belts; you name it, I want it. I think there is nothing better than finding the perfect accessory. There is something about that perfect accessory: it promises a life of adventure and romance. You can dream about being the perfect woman… I love these beautiful scarves by SuTurno, a Spanish brand, they are simply dreamy: SuTurno was founded in Madrid by Julia Vergara and Javier Gutierrez Bayo. We work on different design areas and media (fashion, interiors, graphics…). We are specialist in print design and have worked in projects for international clients such as Marc by Marc Jacobs, Jocomomola by Sybilla, Baum und Pferdgarten, Norse Projects, Hoss Intropia, Zara Home, Loreak Mendian, Indiwoman, Hakei, Laga. We also run our own brand, SuTurno, where our personal projects are carefully crafted in limited numbers by local artisans, combining quality natural materials and striking prints. All of our items are made in the UE.

Motherhood

Yesterday I thought about being a mother and about how hard and surreal I think it is. Still. I see my boy growing up so fast and I can barely keep up. It’s still unimaginable that he’s my son, my incredible special boy. I do hope you all had a special Mothersday on which you honored the women that brought you into this life. However strange, intense, hard, loving or confusing your own relationship with your mother may be, she is still the one who held you when you cried at night. Or sat with you when you were sick. When I think about the love I received from my mother (and still do), I feel I’m blessed and I hope I can be half as good a mother as she was to me. {1. Tamara Muller / 2. Nancy Straughan}

Maryanne Moodie

It’s been a while since I wrote a blogpost. A lot has happened in my little life, I left my job after six years and because it was a job I cherished it was all very emotional. However I do think it is for the best. I wasn’t happy for a while and didn’t feel it was the place for me anymore. Sometimes life gives you lemons and then you need to make lemonade. I will try to seize this opportunity to find out my true passion and hopefully somewhere along the road I will find a job again that I love. This really is a time to weave a new life for myself. Speaking of weaving: I found these incredible tapestries made by Maryanne Moodie. She makes collections for private and commercial clients and I think her work is really beautiful. They are a bit expensive, but who knows: maybe we’ll win the lottery some day! Or I can take up weaving!

Blog favorite: Hysj

I’m totally in love with these two ladies. I’m an avid reader of their blogs By Fryd and Hilde Mork where they do nothing less than making art. They have an aesthetic that really resonates with me. They also have a shop where they sell beautiful quality pieces. If you are quick you can still join their giveaway! (I certainly am) {HYSJ 01 // AUGUST 2013 copyright HYSJ}

Flavourites Live 2013

I really enjoyed my visit to Flavourites Live. This time I also went to the business section where you could attend lectures and workshops by MamaMarketing and Ocher a.o. I really love the atmosphere with all the little shops but I must admit that maybe I’m becoming a little spoiled since I didn’t really see any new stuff. I guess this has something to do with me attending quite a lot of fairs and events…I did buy a great new hat by one label Yellow108 though. They are being sold here by webstore VivaLaVida and the story behind that brand is such an inspiring one. They take leftover pieces of material and recycle them into beautiful hats. Do make sure to check out the sustainable webstore VivaLaVida Lifestyle too run by Ilse and Jeroen, they were so very nice! Here are some pictures of my favorite stands with original products. {1. Kaartje of Kip – I really like their style / 2. Studio Saartje – O, how I wish I could sew… / 3. Ien en Mien – self-made bags / 4. De fabricage – Vintage furniture – love}

Woonbeurs 2013

Last week I went to the Woonbeurs together with a lot of other bloggers. We had an intense workshop and lecture day the day before from Meet the Blogger Amsterdam. Last year was the first time I attended MTB and it was very nice to see some of those bloggers again (and a lot of new faces) this year and a lot of inspiration came our way. I felt very thankful! Have a look at the list of attendees here to discover a lot of new nice blogs and posts on MTB and the Woonbeurs. I chose to only feature two shots I made at the Woonbeurs. I made a lot of photo’s, some can be seen on my Instagram, but I especially liked these and anyway: less is more! This coming week I will be heading to the Frankfurt Buchmesse to do some more trend discoveries. Have a nice week everyone! {photo’s + design by me}
