Fotoshoot with Holly Marder & Anouschka Rokebrand

A little while back the lovely Holly Marder from Avenue Lifestyle blog requested models on Facebook for an upcoming fotoshoot. Normally I’m kind off camera shy but since stepping out of my comfort zone is something I’m attempting to do more I emailed Holly for the specifics. I didn’t really have an idea what to expect but I found myself with a lot of other beautiful ladies making flower garlands in a beautiful styled space. It turned out to be a really fun day. Ajda Mehmet made a lot of delicious food which we got to eat at the end (!), Anouschka Rokebrand made beautiful photo’s and Holly Marder’s detailed styling and creative direction really was inspiring. It was a lot of fun to see how something like that comes together and all this hard work was rewarded with a feature on the ultimate wedding blog: Style Me Pretty. I’m very proud to have been a part of it! Thanks again Holly!

Flavourites Live 2014 – it’s almost here!

One of my favorite events during the year is Flavourites Live. I’ve been going there from the very beginning and I’ve seen the event grow and grow. I also still love the website (and store now too!), it’s one of my basic go-to websites whenever I want to relax and browse some webshops. This year I’m going there with Nina from Paper Stories with whom I’m also maybe (fingers crossed) going to Maison & Objet this year (wow!!!) At Flavourites Live you can shop (till you drop) live at 130 web stores (!), there’s a Flavourites Live restaurant and Simply Slow (love that concept) is hosting get-together sessions. There is also a paper atelier where Monique from vlinspiratie will teach you all about wrapping your presents in new and creative ways (O, Nina is joining her on Saturday for that! How cool is that!). Mark 21 -23 november in your calendar! I’m going on Friday, come and say hi!

Maryanne Moodie

It’s been a while since I wrote a blogpost. A lot has happened in my little life, I left my job after six years and because it was a job I cherished it was all very emotional. However I do think it is for the best. I wasn’t happy for a while and didn’t feel it was the place for me anymore. Sometimes life gives you lemons and then you need to make lemonade. I will try to seize this opportunity to find out my true passion and hopefully somewhere along the road I will find a job again that I love. This really is a time to weave a new life for myself. Speaking of weaving: I found these incredible tapestries made by Maryanne Moodie. She makes collections for private and commercial clients and I think her work is really beautiful. They are a bit expensive, but who knows: maybe we’ll win the lottery some day! Or I can take up weaving!

Workshop: Heute Urlaub

It’s been a little bit quiet here, not because there is something amiss (I really like that word, reminds me a bit of Shakespeare), but because my days were filled with happy things and nice weather. Summer seems to have finally set in here and then everything feels better doesn’t it? Last Saturday I finally had the chance to visit concept store Urlaub in Utrecht and did my very first screen printing workshop by Femke from Windstilte. I went together with Rivka and Nina who are turning out to be my regular workshop buddies and I really was happy with the end result. We made a scarf (mine was grey) and had to come up with a simple form to screen print. I chose a pink circle. I wanted to do a second round to finish my ‘design’ and add another smaller circle, in a different color, but as it turned out we didn’t have time for one because well, we ate cake and chatted and shopped so time flew by. If you have a chance to visit Urlaub and the lovely Ellen please do! I recommend doing a workshop! (and am already checking out the fall program – like […]

Designer spotlight: Hattie Newman {paperartist}

I hope you all had a fine weekend? I spent Saturday at this year’s edition of PapierHier in Amsterdam. It was the first time I attended this heaven for paper lovers. I had a great time getting to know all sorts of different paper and getting inspired by people who love paper just as much as I do. I felt like this whole world opened it’s doors to me. I just had no idea of the variety! The event was hosted by Antalis one of the leading paper company’s in Holland. One of the people who gave a lecture was Hattie Newman. This London based set designer and imagemaker works a lot with paper and can count such names as Louis Vuitton, Honda, GAP, The Times etc. among her clients. She seemed like such a sweet little thing! I just couldn’t believe she was the person behind all this beautiful work! I also made a card with a letterpress. I loved it and I would really like to do a workshop or course in letterpress techniques someday so if you have any suggestions? {1. Installation Grafik Magazine Free Range Birds / 2. Some things I love #3

November already and it’s getting really chilly and dark outside. I don’t know about you, but I’m beginning to miss the sun… November gets me thinking about wooden cabins and a burning fire, warm sweaters and hot chocolate… Is it Christmas yet? {1. Eric Bompard kashmere sweater / 2. OhMarie!

Everyone present at the launch of the new digital magazine OhMarie! got a piñata with a gift. These gifts were meant as a little challenge; everyone should take a picture of them in their interior and then pass them through to the next blogger / person. Via Nina from Paper Stories I received five little lace bobbin utensils (kantklosjes). For a long time I just stared at them wondering what to do with them. Nina made such a beautiful pure photo of them and their first owner Monique also did a great job, with adding some nice images of the craft. I just saw ribbons every time I looked at them, I mean lace and ribbons right? And I wanted to hang them in my Christmas tree. But since I don’t have one yet I had to improvise. If you would like to be the next person to receive these five little friends please let me know and I will send them to you!

Dawanda design extravaganza

I’ve been on holiday a couple of weeks and though I didn’t intend it, it became a short break from blogging too. We mostly relaxed and enjoyed the weather when it was good, read a good book or magazine when not, and really just tried to take things slow. Yesterday, to celebrate the end of my vacation, I went to the DaWanda design market at hotel Meininger in Amsterdam. DaWanda just launched a Dutch site and promoted it by having a design market with 100 handmade and unique DaWanda sellers. I was impressed by how good everything was organized. They even had somebody standing at station Sloterdijk to show people coming by train where to go, everyone received a really nice goody bag and there where beautiful flyers and floor plans. I was also honored as a blogger to be invited to the press meeting, but due to a grand logistic blunder I arrived too late for that! Such a pity, especially since it was a good chance to meet all the fellow bloggers again. A couple of weeks ago I was happy to receive a gift from DaWanda Holland. They sent this beautiful lasercut tree made by All Things we […]

Kindred spirits #2: Elle aime

After my involuntary blogbreak and the most hectic weeks maybe all-time, we are now more and more settling in our new home. In the coming weeks I will share with you parts of our new house, but for now I wanted to share with you the interview I had with Lisa Manuels owner of Shop elle aime. I love her illustrations and workshops, I made buttons and did a bookbinding workshop last weekend with tweeps Rivka from rrauw and Nina from Paper stories. Lisa is just the most lovely person and I was very pleased she agreed to answer my questions. Who are you and what it is that you do exactly? My name is Lisa Manuels and I make illustrations, I create, collect, sell and give workshops! In the north of Rotterdam I own a small shop named Elle aime. There I sell my own illustrations and creations, but also those of other designers and creators from all over the world. I also organise and teach many different creative workshops there. How did you get to be so creative? Probably because it runs in the family a little bit. Actually almost everyone I know is creative, everyone in his […]

Craft: Abigail Brown

I came across these exceptionally crafted birds in one of my favourite online magazines; Covet Garden. They are made by British artist Abigail Brown. Aren’t they lovely? She produces her birds entirely by hand, in her studio in London, England. They are crafted from both new and reused materials. Each piece is unique, no two pieces will ever be the same. I do like birds. I also think each bird has a symbolic meaning like for instance the swan (meaning purity, love, grace, sincerity and beauty) or the kingfisher (meaning peace and prosperity). My favorite bird is the hummingbird. What’s yours?
