Meet the Tweet revisited

When I went to Meet the Tweet last Sunday (thanks again Nina, Rivka and Ria) it was actually one of our conversation topics: why post something about something when others have posted about that something. Is there anything you can add? I thought about that conversation while I postponed writing about MTT. You see, I was a little bit shy. Because how could I add something when so many attending had written so many good posts already? But then I remembered our conclusion: you always have something to bring to the table when it’s in your tone of voice or when it’s drenched in your particular ‘style’. And I remembered what I thought was the great positive about that Sunday: it was meeting so many talented and passionate Dutch ladies. I really was blown away by how amazing some of their products were. I have this awe for anyone with the creative gene, maybe because I lack it. So here are some examples of the talent of some of my (new) favorite creative ladies. In the little booklet Nina made all the attendees have written some quotes and blogtips. If you would like to get your hands on a copy, […]

Last weekend: ShowUp

Before I got incredibly sick (it’s okay, I’m finally feeling somewhat better, although my throat is still sore and I’m out of tissues) I went to ShowUp last weekend. Here are some of the pics I made. I loved the event and will definitely try to go again next August. Everything was really well arranged too, even up to a free coffee! { 2. Kolk & Kolk agenturen / 3 + 4 ENGEL / 5. Lapin & Me / 6. Illustration: Olaf Hajek- Little Gurus

I’ve been a fan of Olaf Hajek’s illustrations for a long time, but now I found out he made a children’s book on yoga. I practice yoga myself (I even did a teachers course at one time, although unfortunately I did not finish it due to circumstances) so you may understand my excitement. Wouldn’t the world be a more lovely place if we all just did an adho mukha svanasana or an utthita trikonasana once in a while?  {The book is only available in German you can try to buy it here}

Modefabriek 2013 #1

Last monday I went to the January edition of the Modefabriek in Amsterdam. I have been fortunate enough to attend the last two editions too, so by now I have a pretty good idea which areas I have to check out. I have to see MINT  (with ambassador Egbert-Jan Weeber) of course and another area called Trash and Treasures which is pretty cool and a little bit edgy. I like the fair, clean and hip environment of MINT. Actually maybe it’s even my most favorite part of the fair. But I have to say I also get really inspired by the ‘Garage Sale Extraordinare’ where thirty sellers are handpicked to showcase (and sell!!) their handmade, vintage or young designer fashion and accessories. For me the Modefabriek was all about the details this edition. So lots of accessories and small details that caught my eye. I have posted some pics on Instagram too and will highlight some new brands the coming weeks.   {1. Modefabriek promo photo / 2. Shops to visit: Restored

Whenever I’m in Amsterdam I try to squeeze in as much quality shops in the (often) limited time I have. Every time I try to cover one particular area, such as the Pijp or Noord or center. I usually know exactly what stores I want to see and in most cases there even is a time plan involved. You could say I’m a little bit neurotic that way. The funny thing is I usually don’t prepare at all whenever I go and visit a foreign city. Foreign cities and their unknown treasures, the enormous quantity of must-see shops: they have a way of paralyzing me. “There is no way to see everything so I might as well just go and see what pops up.” is usually my city trip or vacation attitude. Since I had plenty of time to get to know Amsterdam (I was born and raised in Amstelveen which is kind of its suburb) I have conquered the paralysis as far as this city is concerned. I know it inside out (like my back pocket as we Dutch folk say). Last Saturday I went to Restored on the Haarlemmerdijk, a shop I wanted to see for ages (I […]

Alphabet Bags giveaway

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas? I spent my days with family and just relaxed, ate a lot of chocolate and sweets (whoops) and tried to get some things done of my never ending list… I was rather unsuccessful with that, but still have one more week before I have to go back to work, so maybe next week will be my most productive… I promised you a smashing giveaway and here it is! Maybe some of you read the decor8 blog, I have been a fan for a while now. I love Holly’s blog and work, I think she’s an amazing blogqueen. I really would like to do a real-live workshop and meet her and when I read she recently held one in her home city Hannover, I was of course intrigued. It seemed like such a nice get together with amazing other bloggers and really educating as well. I would love to go next time! I have to confess the goody bag filled with sponsor goodies Holly gave her students made me drool and even slightly impaired my speech for a while… It was AMAZING! I especially loved the Alphabet Bags and could not get over […]

Book: talking dress

As promised here, I would like to tell you about this great book I published recently. It’s called talking dress and discusses fair fashion and lifestyle in great detail, it has loads of practical tips and DIY’s, interviews and a fair shopping guide. About a month ago we had the book launch and it really was a huge pleasure to see the end result (the book we had all worked so hard on) and to celebrate. Actress Sanne Vogel came to receive the first copy of the book and we had great music by Mees. If you would like to see photo’s of the launch please check the FB page of talking dress (and make sure to like it!). And of course I would like to recommend you buy the book (for all Dutch and Belgian readers) and / or buy the app (also available for Android)! Talking dress was written by Marieke Eyskoot with beautiful full-colour illustrations by Koosje Ruijgrok. The book design was by Bonny Smit and it was printed on FSC qualified paper with eco ink. Although it was a time consuming project, it has really been a labor of love by all of us and it has been great […]

OhMarie!

Everyone present at the launch of the new digital magazine OhMarie! got a piñata with a gift. These gifts were meant as a little challenge; everyone should take a picture of them in their interior and then pass them through to the next blogger / person. Via Nina from Paper Stories I received five little lace bobbin utensils (kantklosjes). For a long time I just stared at them wondering what to do with them. Nina made such a beautiful pure photo of them and their first owner Monique also did a great job, with adding some nice images of the craft. I just saw ribbons every time I looked at them, I mean lace and ribbons right? And I wanted to hang them in my Christmas tree. But since I don’t have one yet I had to improvise. If you would like to be the next person to receive these five little friends please let me know and I will send them to you!

Shops to visit: Cottoncake

Recently I visited the Pijp thanks to a great party I will blog about on another occasion. I got the chance to visit some great shops like Zublim and Cottoncake. I was particularly smitten by this last wee little shop. The interior was just so perfect and they served delicious home brewed coffee that came out of a grand looking coffee machine and the clothes and accessories they had were just amazing. My heart just skips a beat in such a perfect place. Just the right mix too between sweet and ‘stoer’. I bought a way to expensive blazer jacket in a beautiful matte green by Minimum. Sometimes you just have to splurge! And did you know their beautiful moth logo was designed by LaFarme? Please do make sure to visit if you have the chance!

Woonbeurs 2012 #2

Some more pics from the Woonbeurs 2012. I just love these sort of events, I could keep on taking pictures! In two weeks you can find me at the Frankfurt Buchmesse for work, another kind of atmosphere, but with the same sort of inspirational vibe. I would love to travel to Milan and go to Interieur 2012 in Kortrijk or Maison & Objet in Paris too. Maybe next time… who knows? {1. & 2. Loved the 101woonideeën house!
