Lidewij Edelkoort – Vanities {the mythology of self}

I wanted to go to Lidewij Edelkoort for years. I’m a fan because I think she’s visually one of the strongest (if not the strongest) one in the field and her work is more than just showing the latest trends, it’s very nigh to making art. She’s considered the Grand Dame of trendwatching and her forecasts are world renowned. But, for years I simply missed her. That is to say until I started with trendwatching myself. Because as soon as I started with the Trendacademy this inspiring world of trendwatchers and trend forecasters opened before me and in a matter of months I saw the biggest names in the Dutch business. And then I got the opportunity to see Li. Of course I wanted to see Li. So I went to Vanities, her latest presentation of SS16 which was preceded by a presentation of active wear. Personally I don’t have a thing for active wear, but according to Lidewij active wear is going to be BIG. We all want comfort in our mobile lives and this comfort wear is going to the next level. She illustrated this by highlighting the sneaker trend and showing that sneakers have now made their […]

Fotoshoot with Holly Marder & Anouschka Rokebrand

A little while back the lovely Holly Marder from Avenue Lifestyle blog requested models on Facebook for an upcoming fotoshoot. Normally I’m kind off camera shy but since stepping out of my comfort zone is something I’m attempting to do more I emailed Holly for the specifics. I didn’t really have an idea what to expect but I found myself with a lot of other beautiful ladies making flower garlands in a beautiful styled space. It turned out to be a really fun day. Ajda Mehmet made a lot of delicious food which we got to eat at the end (!), Anouschka Rokebrand made beautiful photo’s and Holly Marder’s detailed styling and creative direction really was inspiring. It was a lot of fun to see how something like that comes together and all this hard work was rewarded with a feature on the ultimate wedding blog: Style Me Pretty. I’m very proud to have been a part of it! Thanks again Holly!

Strawberry Earth Fair – Mini Trendanalysis

For the Trendacademy we recently had to do a feel trip and record everything we thought was interesting and/ or exemplary for a particular trend. I chose to visit the Strawberry Earth Fair. We had to make a power point presentation and I thought it would be nice to share it here. The presentation highlights a couple of mini-trends and is just a visual overview of the festival. Here’s what I did: I identified a couple of mini-trends and named them, then I searched for images and I also made some photo’s myself. I gave the mini-trends names and embedded them in a larger story. This story is a bit to long to publish here, but you can get an idea just by looking at my slides. The festival says something about how and what we want to ‘experience’ during such an event and this of course is very interesting with regards to the future. * As of today I’m adding a Dutch translation of my posts for my Dutch readers / Vanaf vandaag zal ik ook een Nederlandse vertaling van mijn blogposts toevoegen voor mijn Nederlandse lezers. Voor de Trendacademy moesten we onlangs een feeltrip doen en daarbij alles […]

‘The Maybe’ – Tilda Swinton in MoMA

I love Tilda Swinton. I think she is the most ‘original’ person ever. She recently was in an art piece called The Maybe in MoMA, because, well nobody knows exactly why, but she probably felt like lying around in a glass box and call it: The Maybe (which is a beautiful poetic title). You can fill in your own story here. The museum’s statement read: An integral part of The Maybe’s incarnation at MoMA in 2013 is that there is no published schedule for its appearance, no artist’s statement released, no museum statement beyond this brief context, no public profile or image issued. Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real – shared – time: now we see it, now we don’t.”

Flavourites Live 2014 – it’s almost here!

One of my favorite events during the year is Flavourites Live. I’ve been going there from the very beginning and I’ve seen the event grow and grow. I also still love the website (and store now too!), it’s one of my basic go-to websites whenever I want to relax and browse some webshops. This year I’m going there with Nina from Paper Stories with whom I’m also maybe (fingers crossed) going to Maison & Objet this year (wow!!!) At Flavourites Live you can shop (till you drop) live at 130 web stores (!), there’s a Flavourites Live restaurant and Simply Slow (love that concept) is hosting get-together sessions. There is also a paper atelier where Monique from vlinspiratie will teach you all about wrapping your presents in new and creative ways (O, Nina is joining her on Saturday for that! How cool is that!). Mark 21 -23 november in your calendar! I’m going on Friday, come and say hi!

DDW 14 Dutch Design Week III Strijp-S & PHE

On my second day at DDW I went to the Strijp area and to Piet Hein Eek. I absolutely loved the industrial, rugged, hippy-3.0 feel of these area’s. They truly are places of inspiration and I thought it gave a good look into our potential future; the way we can use old buildings and create new purposes for them. There is really something futuristic about it, like walking around in some sci-fi landscape (the good one that is). Free places, where you can make beautiful murals on a wall or start a bbq outside. A place where creativity roams free without any confines. Next year I’m going to go here first and roam some more. This is my last post about the DDW. I have a lot of cool stuff coming up though! I’m doing two different styling shoots with products, there’s a book review and an interview with an inspiring lady that started a cool new initiative. I’ve decided to edit my ‘about’ page somewhat to highlight the direction this blog is heading. More on fair lifestyle, green choices and social design. And my blog will hopefully become a space where I can share my new found passion: trendwatching. […]

DDW14 Dutch Design Week II

I made so many photo’s during DDW I had to write another post on it (and maybe I will write another one, who knows?) Everything was so beautifully styled and perfect. It was just a photographer’s dream. You could just take photo’s all day long. One of the most beautiful things I saw were the silk fabrics by Hilde Koenders. I loved their delicacy and the geometric, abstract shapes made out of tulip petals that were reminscent of faces. Tulipbulbs were imported from Turkey during the golden age at excessively high prices. This work pays tribute to this historical fact by a series of abstract different compositions made with dried tulip leaves.  As a matter of fact I noticed a lot of delicate, airy, soft objects at DDW. The laser cut-out garments in black and white by Martijn van Strien, the Airplanting work by Carolijn Slottje for bringing nature inside for indoor people and the very special Carpet Versatile Volumes made by Tijmen Smeulders.

DDW14 Dutch Design Week I

So I went to the Dutch Design Week last Thursday and Friday. I really had the most inspiring two days (with a dramatic ending but more on that later). I loved being there on my own (a luxury as a mother) and I saw a lot. On Thursday I covered the central area starting with the VanAbbemuseum, Cityhall and the design route in the centre and on Friday I went to the Strijp Area and Piet Hein Eek. I especially loved this area and PHE also was great! Highlights for me were the Graduation Show of the Dutch Design Academy, Klokgebouw and the Schellensfactory. A lot of other bloggers wrote about the DDW so you can’t have missed it! Lonneke Huijbregts from Bubblemint organized a bloggerscafe for the first time during the DDW where bloggers gathered for a meet and greet. I met the lovely ladies behind Coosje and ViaMartine in person, I love it when online and offline sometimes meet! The turnout this year was even greater than last year, people know to find this event more and more. Make sure to come next year! I will! {1. Inventory – Atelier NL Sandbank Ongoing / 2. Klokgebouw / 3. […]

ShowUp (again)

I felt really inspired after visiting ShowUp this weekend. After I saw all these creative people living their dream by ‘creating’ I thought more about my creative dreams and about finding a way to do something with them. The problem with me is that I like so many different things. I like photography and fashion, design and illustration to name just a few. And then there is this whole ‘spiritual’ side of me (which I rarely share here). How can I ever choose one thing? Sometimes I feel I’m doomed not being really good in anything (creative I mean). “The difference between them and you is that they just do it.” Nina said to me and she is right of course although she’s putting a little bit too much trust in my talent… Having the guts and just going for it! Not being over analytical and critical! Not being an absolute perfectionist! The art of letting go… and just doing it! {1. Flower by Vlinder&Vogel / 2. Belgian made cute retro style by Froy & Dind / 3. Candles and more beauty by Mo man tai / 4. Two sisters living the dream (and making amazing stuff while doing so: […]

ShowUp 2014

I had the best weekend! On Saturday I was one of the models for one of Holly’s gorgeous bridalshoots *blush* with the amazing photographer Anouschka Rokebrand (more on that soon) and today I went to the ShowUp trade fair with Nina from Paper Stories. We saw a lot of beautiful stuff and on top of that it was just really nice to be inspired together with a friend. I will pick some brands to blog about in the coming weeks, but here are just some inspirational photo’s I made. I made them with my iPhone.. my little boy dropped (yes, I did say dropped) my Nikon camera this morning and now it’s kind off not zooming anymore.. In fact it’s not doing much anymore.. Any tips for a good camera are more than welcome! As far as highlights go: THE VENUE! The trade fair has grown so much! {1. Ferm Living via Kolk & Kolk Agenturen // 2.
