-The flower as the new messenger. -Green interior design. -(Etno)botanical design. Waarden als […]

Royal Showpieces II – served in style

Fotoshoot with Holly Marder & Anouschka Rokebrand

A little while back the lovely Holly Marder from Avenue Lifestyle blog requested models on Facebook for an upcoming fotoshoot. Normally I’m kind off camera shy but since stepping out of my comfort zone is something I’m attempting to do more I emailed Holly for the specifics. I didn’t really have an idea what to expect but I found myself with a lot of other beautiful ladies making flower garlands in a beautiful styled space. It turned out to be a really fun day. Ajda Mehmet made a lot of delicious food which we got to eat at the end (!), Anouschka Rokebrand made beautiful photo’s and Holly Marder’s detailed styling and creative direction really was inspiring. It was a lot of fun to see how something like that comes together and all this hard work was rewarded with a feature on the ultimate wedding blog: Style Me Pretty. I’m very proud to have been a part of it! Thanks again Holly!

Flavourites Live 2014 – it’s almost here!

One of my favorite events during the year is Flavourites Live. I’ve been going there from the very beginning and I’ve seen the event grow and grow. I also still love the website (and store now too!), it’s one of my basic go-to websites whenever I want to relax and browse some webshops. This year I’m going there with Nina from Paper Stories with whom I’m also maybe (fingers crossed) going to Maison & Objet this year (wow!!!) At Flavourites Live you can shop (till you drop) live at 130 web stores (!), there’s a Flavourites Live restaurant and Simply Slow (love that concept) is hosting get-together sessions. There is also a paper atelier where Monique from vlinspiratie will teach you all about wrapping your presents in new and creative ways (O, Nina is joining her on Saturday for that! How cool is that!). Mark 21 -23 november in your calendar! I’m going on Friday, come and say hi!

DDW14 Dutch Design Week II

I made so many photo’s during DDW I had to write another post on it (and maybe I will write another one, who knows?) Everything was so beautifully styled and perfect. It was just a photographer’s dream. You could just take photo’s all day long. One of the most beautiful things I saw were the silk fabrics by Hilde Koenders. I loved their delicacy and the geometric, abstract shapes made out of tulip petals that were reminscent of faces. Tulipbulbs were imported from Turkey during the golden age at excessively high prices. This work pays tribute to this historical fact by a series of abstract different compositions made with dried tulip leaves.  As a matter of fact I noticed a lot of delicate, airy, soft objects at DDW. The laser cut-out garments in black and white by Martijn van Strien, the Airplanting work by Carolijn Slottje for bringing nature inside for indoor people and the very special Carpet Versatile Volumes made by Tijmen Smeulders.

ShowUp (again)

I felt really inspired after visiting ShowUp this weekend. After I saw all these creative people living their dream by ‘creating’ I thought more about my creative dreams and about finding a way to do something with them. The problem with me is that I like so many different things. I like photography and fashion, design and illustration to name just a few. And then there is this whole ‘spiritual’ side of me (which I rarely share here). How can I ever choose one thing? Sometimes I feel I’m doomed not being really good in anything (creative I mean). “The difference between them and you is that they just do it.” Nina said to me and she is right of course although she’s putting a little bit too much trust in my talent… Having the guts and just going for it! Not being over analytical and critical! Not being an absolute perfectionist! The art of letting go… and just doing it! {1. Flower by Vlinder&Vogel / 2. ShowUp 2014

I had the best weekend! On Saturday I was one of the models for one of Holly’s gorgeous bridalshoots *blush* with the amazing photographer Anouschka Rokebrand (more on that soon) and today I went to the ShowUp trade fair with Nina from Paper Stories. We saw a lot of beautiful stuff and on top of that it was just really nice to be inspired together with a friend. I will pick some brands to blog about in the coming weeks, but here are just some inspirational photo’s I made. I made them with my iPhone.. my little boy dropped (yes, I did say dropped) my Nikon camera this morning and now it’s kind off not zooming anymore.. In fact it’s not doing much anymore.. Any tips for a good camera are more than welcome! As far as highlights go: THE VENUE! The trade fair has grown so much! {1. Ferm Living via Kolk & Kolk Agenturen // 2. Flavourites Live 2013

I really enjoyed my visit to Flavourites Live. This time I also went to the business section where you could attend lectures and workshops by MamaMarketing and Ocher a.o. I really love the atmosphere with all the little shops but I must admit that maybe I’m becoming a little spoiled since I didn’t really see any new stuff. I guess this has something to do with me attending quite a lot of fairs and events…I did buy a great new hat by one label Yellow108 though. They are being sold here by webstore VivaLaVida and the story behind that brand is such an inspiring one. They take leftover pieces of material and recycle them into beautiful hats. Do make sure to check out the sustainable webstore VivaLaVida Lifestyle too run by Ilse and Jeroen, they were so very nice! Here are some pictures of my favorite stands with original products. {1. Kaartje of Kip – I really like their style / 2. Studio Saartje – O, how I wish I could sew… / 3. Ien en Mien – self-made bags / 4. De fabricage – Vintage furniture – love}

Woonbeurs 2013

Last week I went to the Woonbeurs together with a lot of other bloggers. We had an intense workshop and lecture day the day before from Meet the Blogger Amsterdam. Last year was the first time I attended MTB and it was very nice to see some of those bloggers again (and a lot of new faces) this year and a lot of inspiration came our way. I felt very thankful! Have a look at the list of attendees here to discover a lot of new nice blogs and posts on MTB and the Woonbeurs. I chose to only feature two shots I made at the Woonbeurs. I made a lot of photo’s, some can be seen on my Instagram, but I especially liked these and anyway: less is more! This coming week I will be heading to the Frankfurt Buchmesse to do some more trend discoveries. Have a nice week everyone! {photo’s + design by me}

ShowUp August edition 2013

Last Sunday I went to ShowUp for the second time and I saw a lot of beautiful new brands (and old) in Amsterdam-Noord. I was pleasantly surprised the fair had grown so much, it’s such a great initiative and I think its success proves that. I made photo’s of a couple of my favorites, like the incredibly talented and quirky De Krantenkapper, the environmentally conscious NikoNiko and designs by the lovely Bibi de Lang alias BL-ij and her initiative Little Black Book a collaboration with Yvette Jacobs. (we are kindred pastel sisters I’m sure). I loved the ceramic cups by Alissa + Nienke (you can buy one at Restored!), the taxidermy (you know I have a thing with that) by Luxury for Nature just to name a few. Keep your eyes out too for the new collection by Kidsonroof and check out the new papergoods at WowGoods. See you in February for sure! {1. Kidsonroof / 2. BL-ij / 3. Alissa + Nienke / 4 & 5.
